I used to believe
In happily ever after.
I thought it meant days filled with love,
And sun,
And lots and lots of laughter.
I married for that
Two times, both in haste,
And became an angry young man.
Each day was like the one before
And was
Never like when we began.
And then it happened;
I met a person
With whom I was so much in love,
I knew we would last forever.
We played,
And laughed, and sun shone above.
Our bliss was complete
And filled with careing.
When questioned, we answered as one.
At first, we lived together, then
Married
And our days were filled with fun.
Then it was over.
I lost my belief
In happily ever after.
My life just moved from day to day,
Alone,
With hardly any laughter.
But time can heal wounds.
Once more, I believe
In happily ever after.
It does not mean what I once thought,
But still,
It is worth chasing after.
And even though old,
And I still believe
In happily ever after,
I now know it’s days of respect,
And love;
Careing, and sometimes, laughter.
